Parents & Students Day - Graduation of First Years
|
The first graduation ceremony of the 2010 Guiding and Conservation intake, as well as the 2010 Hotel, Lodge and Resort Managers intake was held on 29th April.
The candidates' parents, who had been invited to participate in this youthful event, arrived at 09:00. During his welcome, Mr. Ian van Rensburg gave an overview of the importance of this type of training, which in not only academic but also practical and specifically workplace orientated.
After the welcoming, Mr. Mel Meyer gave an overview of what workplace exposure means and then it was time for the learners to demonstrate the skills they had developed by taking out a game drive that they had planned themselves.
On their return, the parents were treated to some more refreshing tea and coffee followed by a fun cooking demonstration by our chef candidates, led by our Executive Chef, Edward Smith.
Edward is well known for his expertise, people skills and joking around and the demonstration was much appreciated by Parents, Students and Staff.

Apart from the cooking demonstration, where students had free rein on a variety of baked breads that the parents could nibble on, delicious delicacies and pastries were also presented to the parents.
Parents were given an opportunity to mix with the Academy Staff and pose relevant questions before retiring to the Hall, where Diederick Reinecke handed out the well deserved Certificates of Achievement. He thanked the students and his staff and gave special thanks to the parents for the interest they show in their children's learning.
The Students Portfolios of Evidence were on display for parents who wanted to track their children's evidence of knowledge after which Mr Reinecke concluded the meeting with his very satisfied parents and students.
All the preparations regarding the food and setting up for this special occasion were organised and handled by the students themselves - congratulations to you all on a job well done!
